Foods That Can Cause Constipation

I've talked a little bit about the many foods that can relieve constipation here, but I haven't said much about the foods you should try an avoid if you chronically suffer from constipation. Here is a list of foods that can cause constipation.

Cheese

All dairy products can cause constipation, but cheese is probably the biggest offender. Try to replace the cheese in your sandwiches or other recipes with flavorful vegetables to cut down on your intake of cheese.

Pork

Pork is difficult for your body to digest, as because of that, it can be a major cause of constipation. Lean meats or fish like salmon are a great replacement for pork if you're hoping to cure chronic constipation.

Processed Foods

Processed foods might be an obvious culprit when it comes to constipation, but it's worth mentioning all the same. If you frequently consume processed foods because you don't have time to cook, try freezing healthy meals and reheating them for meals later instead.

Eggs

Though Eggs are a wonderful thing to eat in small doses, eating too much of this good thing can unfortunately cause constipation. If cutting eggs from your diet is too difficult, try to eat egg whites only whenever possible.

Wheat Products

Having wheat products in your diet is a great thing, but if you suffer from constipation, you should take a look at which wheat products you consume. Things like pastries in particular can be major causes of problems.

Corn

Though corn contains many good nutrients, it also contains a lot of starch. Eating too much corn can definitely contribute to constipation. Another vegetable that is a good source of fiber in eggplant, which also happens to be rich in fiber.

The number of bowel movements generally decreases with age. Ninety-five percent of adults have bowel movements between three and 21 times per week, and this would be considered normal. The most common pattern is one bowel movement a day, but this pattern is seen in less than 50% of people. Moreover, most people are irregular and do not have bowel movements every day or the same number of bowel movements each day.

There is no medical reason to have a bowel movement every day. Going without a bowel movement for two or three days does not cause physical discomfort, only mental distress for some people. Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence that "toxins" accumulate when bowel movements are infrequent or that constipation leads to cancer.

Constipation is one manifestation of irritable bowel syndrome. Medical diagnosis of such condition is not simple, a series of exams are required in order to detect related gastrointestinal diseases.
